Wellington Nov. 27th. 1871. Dear Mr. McLean, I called today for the purpose of getting the name of the Committee Clerk who attended on Russells invesitgation and after considerable reluctance and a good deal of incivility on the part of the Messrs. Stowe Bros. I learned that the name was Bothomley, where he is to be found I know not. It would be as well if these two gentlemen were quietly informed to give me the desired information and if Mr. Bothomley who I have not seen were also told to see me with reference to the affidavit which I consider very material to our case. I dont wish you to mention to the Stowes that I have complained of their conduct because it would be productive of no good result as far as concerns our present enquiry, but a hint coming from yourself would I have no doubt be highly beneficial. Trusting you may enjoy your trip which must be wanted after your arduous taking of the sessions. Believe me faithfully yours P.A. Buckley. The Hon. D. McLean, Native Minister.
