By Mr McDonell Rangitikei 16 Jany 1852 My dearest Douglas I am only yet as far as Waikanae. The natives have so much to say. The weather is so hot and feeling rather unwell. I think I will just quietly take care of myself and take it easy. I will be quite well again tomorrow and in fact there is very little the matter with me now excepting a sort of headache arising probably from a disordered stomach. I was much worse when in town with you. I cannot help thinking there is something unhealthy about Dalmuir Hill, at least I generally feel more indisposed there than anywhere else. We must get Papa to the cottage for a time and see what effect change will have. I am almost quite well again and shall probably go on in the cool of the evening. I have written two letters to pussy from Porirua yesterday but of course she will as usual only acknowledge the receipt of one. I must drive her into business habits. Be a good girl dearest and believe me always to be your own faithful and affectionate husband Donald McLean What makes me feel quite well again in such a short time is that I have had a vomit.
