Ma chere frere Got telegram also letter today. I see you will be some little time yet but thankful you are at least so far. Trust your time will not be much spent in Napier. The weather here is also lovely. I hear they are clamorous to get you back here. Pollen is not well. No one acting but Bowen. From what I hear he is anxious for your return not altogether caring for the responsibility of being alone. You do well to keep St John. He enjoys Napier, nothing to harry him here? Mrs St J changing servants etc so that matters would not be very comfortable for him at present. I cannot feel comfortable at the thought of so much sickness in Napier. My finances are getting very low but Douglas has helped me so far at a ruinous percentage. I think the horse might bring a good price now. The Judge has gone to Wanganui. Mrs J being alone in lodgings have asked her here for a few days. Douglas accompanied her to church yesterday. He is a little unsettled today, anxious to have a run and back in 'Luna'. The weather is most tempting but Napier is by no means a desirable place to go to at present. A run south would do him no harm. He has been studying pretty close lately. Mr Clark is pretty well and at his office the morning after his arrival. I hear through him that you have had very heavy work. He says he never saw anything to equal the amount of native meetings etc that you went through but see by the papers that you closed them all with triumph. I must not write any more or will give way to feelings of anxiety and uneasiness. There has been a little rain here. In haste Annabella McLean Monday April 26th [1875]
