Warea, March 30 /47. My Dear Sir, I have not written you lately but I trust you will believe me when I say that it was not want of sincere and friendly feeling toward you which caused that neglect, but it was an entire want of time as all myleisure hours were filled up with writing official reports, and to the society and other parties at home. Besides this I was dayly in the pleasant anticipation of seeing you soon with me in my humble abode. However much as I am indeed desirous of your company I can excuse your delay of coming down here as I am fully aware how much your time must be occupied especially after the Governors late visit until perhaps now. Notwithstanding I hope I shall see you before long. On my last being with you, you proposed history as a topic of correspondence between us. This would certainly be a most interesting and pleasing subject for both of us, but as the field it call into is so enormous extensive and unavoidably requires references to be made (with respect to data's, years and facts) to books which are at present out of my reach I fancy the matter would be an undertaking for me which I not should be able to carry out satisfacorily. However there is another subject which I feel sure would not be less agreeable for your taste to communicate upon, than what it would be to my own taste and of whose resources are both of us in possession. The subject I allude to we might call "System of Christian religion", upon every head it includes we might freely exchange out thought and opinions. Should the latter here and there differ or dash we know that we do not quarrel but only write for our own use and for the clear and definite development of our own views and principles which by reflection and writing on both sides will be brought into lively exercise and action - If my proposal should be agreeable to you, you will let me know either by giving me at once a dogmatical challenge or by calling upon me to offer one of that kind to you. Without presuming to do so already now before I hear of you I would only friendly suggest for regularities sake to make the first point of discussion the question "What is religion, etc." As it is already midnight and the bearer, Aparahama's wife will be of at daybreak I must here conclude and wishing you a good night and pleasant dreams (if you are fond of such visitors) I remain, My Dear Sir, Yours truly and affectionately, J. H. Riemenschneider. My haa, Mr. Frost from Matakaramu has arrived here. What do you say to that?
