Wellington May 6th 1870 My dear Mr. McLean, We have just arrived from Otago by the ''Ashleigh'' and she goes on at once via Napier I must remain here for 2 days to make up all the returns of the firing and settle up the accounts of the representatives who are all going home to their respective districts. I shall come on by the first boat via West Coast which leaves here, I think, on Sunday so I shall be in Auckland about Saturday next. Everything went off most satisfactorily not a single growl or dispute or protest on any point whatever. We were well treated in every way - Fox made a great speech at the Theatre which was literally crammed. It was bitterly cold in Otago which was rather against the Northern Volunteers, but the South did not take all the prizes - A Thames man won the first prize in separate sets but the belt (Champion) was won by an Otago man - I have sent you some papers with the full account of the match by Mr. Monro, an Auckland competitor - The steamer is off, so I must close this - In haste I remain Yours sincerely Philip Harington ''Challenger'' sailed from here on Tuesday last.
