Letter from P. Wilson, to Donald McLean, dated 10th. August 1854. New Plymouth 10th. August 1854. My dear Mac, I wrote to you a few days ago, by the Rev. Mr. Mackie, and forgot to request you to ask Dr. Featherstone if some three months ago, he received a full copy of my Journal, betwixt this and Wanganui, which I sent to him by post, on, I think, the 24th, May. As I have not the smallest grain of faith in the correctness of our Post Office men, --- Leach not exeepted; and as the Doctor has the credit of possessing ordinary courtesy at least, I think it worth while to make the enquiry; which please do, when you may happen to see Dr. F.. I am glad to be enabled to tell you that up to this date, the wounded men are doing remarkably well. I extracted the ball yesterday from the shoulder of the man, who, I stated in my letter, could not tell, nor I either, where it had gotten to. It now turns out that the rogue knew all the time where it was, but, afraid that I would cut it out, he said nothing about its whereabouts. It began, however, to give him uneasiness, so he let the secret out at yesterday morning's visit; when, after some trouble, for it lay deep, I got it out. All is quiet at the Mangareka. Katatori is apparently full of remorse; and I hope he will not scruple about blowing his brains out, ere many days. The world seems to entertain the notion that he will, and Rawiri's friends vow he shall never tramp the sward again with impunity. Yours very faithfully (Signed) P. Wilson. To:- Donald McLean.
