Govt. House Auckland May 18, 1868 My dear Mr. Maclean, Lady Bowen and I propose to return to Wellington in the "Sturt" about the first week in June, and to visit Napier for a day or two in our voyage. I think it right to mention this to you; but I particularly request that there may be no repetition at Napier of what was done at Auckland, where preparations were made for our reception on a certain day; and where disappointment was felt because it was impossible for us to arrive on that day. It is quite impossible to fix within a week the day on which we shall reach Napier, for we are going first to Taurange and other places. I hope, therefore, that the good people of your Province will make no preparations for our reception, at all events until the "Sturt" is actually in your harbour. Lady Bowen writes in kind regards to you with, My dear Mr. Maclean, yrs. very faithfully, G. F. Bowen His Honor, Donald McLean Esqr.
