7 January 1861 Napier My dear brother I write you a few lines by the Satellite who sails for Auckland. We are all well hear. The wool is ready and 30 bales of it on bo[a]rd the Se[a] Serpent for Wellington. The rest will go next trip. A letter from James Douglas our [cousin] states that Archy's wife and our sister Cathrine had sailed from London on the 2 of last October for Wellington in the Wild Duck. She was their last year. Captain Blair will bring them in his vessell with all their luggage. He promised me he would be on the lookout for them. What about Otago to send sheep without a place secured. I do not like the idea but they will be ready at aney time. I hope the ship that takes them will have some lay days hear as you cannot ship sheep all at once. In hopes to hear from you and wishing many happy returns of the season. Your affectionate brother A McLean
