Copy of a letter to Capt.Johnstone. Dear Capt. Johnstone, When are you coming up to Auckland? I should like much to see you on the several subjects referred to in your letter addressed to me at Wellington. Should you not be coming up shortly, may I ask you to favour me with your views on the present state of native affairs in the Raglan District. I will look up the papers relating to your old claim which was before the House about two years ago. I was under the impression that the question was settled then. I am anxious to get information as to the best line of road from Raglan to Waipa. You must have travelled over the different routes and I should feel much obliged for further hints and suggestions from you on the subject. I remain etc. Donald McLean Auckland January 9th, 1871
