Apl.30 1870 Dear Sir, I enclose a copy of Mr. Sheehans address to the meeting at ''Paki Paki'' together with a copy of the H.B. Herald Editorial thereon. Mr. Sheehan got a sharp official from Mr. Gilles the other day telling him if he did not return to his duty in a week he would suspend him and appt. some one in his place. I hear Mr. Sheehan intends to resign his appt. he has written to Auckland from here stating that he has been offered as good as £2000 per annum to come and quarter in Hawkes Bay. It strikes me his coming would for a time be more ruinous to the Natives that drinking a glass of grog accasionally. The Meeting of Prov. Council is approaching I expect in 3 weeks but such petty meeting is now beneath your notice. We will have a new Education Act Sheep Act doing away with foot rot as a disease. I have got all my people in Napier at last. Mrs. Fannin saw you at Govt. Ball in Auckland - but you did not recognise her. One word I have to say be cautious of Geo. Worgan he is in that position that he does not care what he does. He is under the impression that the Govt. not you have thrown him over board. Hoping you are well, I am dear Sir, Yours sincerely Geo. T. Fannin. An Extract from telegraph is also enclosed.
