Letter from T.G.B. to Donald McLean Esq. dated 15th. August (no date of year) My dear McLean, I write you a few lines only to say that I have written you a long letter, and given it to Tancred, who goes down in the ''White Swan'' to Wellington, and thence to Nelson. The main subject of my letter is to tell you that Featherstone writes in the greatest alarm about the Wairarapa; says old settlers have been warned to go to Wellington, as the only place of safety; and that an outbreak is likely to take place; that the natives are getting their horses for arms, etc., etc., If you have not gone to the Wairarapa before you get this, it would be as well to do so at once, for though I do not believe the report, it will be wise to dissipate such idle rumours. Yours very sincerely (Sighed) T.G.B. 15th. August. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
