Whanganui Jany. 2nd 1873 My dear Sir, I was very much disappointed at not hearing from you by either of the Steamers indeed I expected to have seen you as it is certainly time you came up -- The time is now sufficiently ripe and the harvest lies ready to your hand -- Unless I have entirely misread your views I would say that you have in the matter of the settlement of this Coast every object of your desires ready for accomplishment and waiting but your presence for fulfillment. I am surprised I confess at the attitude the Govt. has assumed towards myself, and am quite at a loss to conceive what can have been the nature of the Commissioners report that it should have induced the Government to think my suspension necessary -- I have in the hopes of seeing you refrained from writing and do so still, as much I have to say is better said than written. I would, if you will take the trouble, feel obliged by your causing my salary to be paid, as I have received nothing for six months and am at present a large amt: in addition out of pocket besides -- I am inconvenienced by this, as the monies I have drawn from Napier I want again -- It is really preposterous that I should be so placed; as with my travelling expences and costs of removal I am between 4 and 500£ out of pocket. I should have asked your permission to go to Wellington for the purpose of insisting on a settlement of these things but for the prospect of meeting you here. The Govt. have had the fullest and clearest information on every subject from me; and anything that may not appear perfectly clear as things now stand, I can render transparent in half an hours interview. From point of view I have been so grossly ill used that nothing but my wish to see you first has given the patience to endure it. Hoping therefore to see you shortly I am my dear Sir Your faithful and obed servt. Geo. B. Worgan The Hon. D. McLean Wellington
