After opening for the Eagles in Austin, last May, the 17 year old guitarist KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD was signed to the Giant label, owned by Eagles manager Irving Azoff. Shepherd took up playing guitar at seven years of age after meeting Stevie Ray Vaughan. The track ‘Deja Voodoo’ is on Radio Hauraki. The album is Ledbetter Heights.

THE FINISH OF THE SYDNEY THOUSAND TROT (1½ MILES) AT THE AUSTRALIAN TROTTING CLUB’S MEETING AT VICTORIA PARK.—MAN O’WAR (W. Carter) wins by thr-PEARLWOOD (F. Smith), with MEDWAY (J. Kenny), next rails, and HAPPY VOYAGE (W. Tomkinson) a dead-heat for third place. HONEST FLORRIE was fifth. There were 17 start Zealanders, MONEYKA nor SWAGSMAN (late Harold Junior), took their places in the field, being withdrawn at the eleventh hour.
