A.W.H., photo. MOA FOOTPRINTS DISCOVERED NEAR GISBORNE. The photo shows three moa footprints recently discovered on the bank of the Waikanae stream, between the wharf and railway station at Gisborne. The footprints. which are exceedingly well-detincd. were found in a substratum of soft sandstone, underlying a ledge of papa about twelve inches in depth.

A WHALE STRANDED ON MAKARORI BEACH, GISBORNE. Towards the end of last month a whale of the humpback species was washed up on the Gisborne end of the Mararori Beach. The monster measured 60ft. 6in, long and 8ft. across the body. Its head was 10ft. long and its tail 10ft. from tip to tip.
