This magnificent old carving comes from the Taupo district. It is now in the Hawkes Bay Museum, Napier. The photograph, which is by Dr T. Barrow, appears in his book, ‘The Life and Work of the Maori Carver’, reviewed on page 54 of this issue of ‘Te Ao Hou’.
