This formidable machine and its driver are a familiar sight in Auckland. People stand and watch it admiringly and never tire of photographing it. (Photo: Robin Wood) At Waimarama, a largely Maori seaside settlement about 20 miles south of Hastings, the local school established a carved arch over its gateway recently. The artists: the pupils of the school. The teacher: Mr Sidney Mead. Nursing runs in the family. This picture was taken in 1955 when the three Walker sisters (left to right: Suzie, Rosina, Mary) were all nursing at Kawakawa Hospital. Suzie is now Mrs Rogers (Moerewa), Rosina is Mrs Nankerville (Kaitaia); Mary, still nursing, has gone for a trip to the islands. (Photo supplied by Mrs R. Hawea, Bulls.)
