ANGLICAN CHOICE
What was needed to lead the Anglican church into the future was a bilingual person, a gentleman and a man of mana, and that man was the Bishop of Aotearoa, Whakahuihui Vercoe. But he was given the cold shoulder by those who voted. Perhaps his skin had a lot to do with it. Our society is ruled by the dominant culture in every sphere of human endeavour. It shocked me to see it in the Anglican church, its ugly head looking down at us. Many of our elders do not understand English so why should they go to listen to a new Archbishop? I am not blaming the new Archbishop. I am blaming the system that put him there.
Bishop of Aotearoa and your wife, naaku enei korero. I am absolutely disgusted with this result. I say without hesitation perhaps the pigment of your skin had a lot to do with the result. If the new Archbishop revives the building of the Cathedral in Auckland he will not get a cent from us. We have our own local commitments. I have been chairman of the Anglican vestry since 1946 and I am still on it as Vicars Warden. So I write with a very knowledgeable background.

THE INDIVIDUAL TOUR GF SOUTH AFRICA BY COLLECTIVE CAVALIERS
We congratulate Bruce Hemera and Hika Reid. No one knows where Hika is? Perhaps he has eloped with Hinemoa the second. The pakeha manager coach and players - I am not bothered with them because big money attracts them in large numbers. The Maori players are a stinking disgrace. The Mormon one more so as he does not play on Sunday, but condones the shooting of blacks right up to the cemetery. They see it on TV every night - shot down like dogs, not allowed to vote in their own country. Millions of them trained Boers, shooting them down like dogs. Maori, have a good look at your hearts: Where has the aroha gone? Surely you are not lured by dollars.
I sincerely hope you will get your just reward when you get back, be it just or unjust, I for one will be happy that you get your reward.
A story-telling hui was held on Takapuahia Marae, Titahi Bay to recount stories of the Porirua area.
The hui came as a result of discussions between the School Publications division of the Education Department and the community ofTakapuahia.
The korero was recorded under the watchful eye of author Patricia Grace and will be transcribed for collation into a series for the School Journal.
Kaumatua came along to the hui during its three days to tell their stories relating to Porirua with embellishments and prompting from one another.
Previous efforts by School Publications to gather stories from the Maori community have met with mixed reaction because of the style of consultation needed to ensure that all are agreed.
