Notable Acquisitions, July 2004 to June 2005

A selection of notable acquisitions covering all the collections is listed in the Turnbull Library Record to alert researchers to newly acquired material judged to be of significant research value. Additions to existing collections are not usually listed, except where they add substantially to what is already held. For access to newly acquired collections the Library would welcome notification that access will be sought, preferably with an indication of a likely date. This will help staff in establishing priorities in processing collections. paterson, alan stuart, 1902-1968. Professor Paterson's book of engaging birds, [c. 1960?]. Ink & wash in sketchbook. Original drawings bound together and presented to polio patient June Opie. It includes various imaginative species of birds, including the spotted wastrel, the wry-necked philanderer, the lesser woodwind, etc. The original for a posthumous publication by Hodder and Stoughton in 1971. purchase.

Oral History Centre Kapunga (Koro) Matemoana Dewes oral history and oral literature collection (1950-1978) Three hundred recordings of lectures, whaikorero, moteatea, hui, waiata, life histories, tauparapara, and other material. Many were recorded by Koro Dewes while he was a lecturer at Victoria University from the late 1960 s and early 19705; others were recorded at marae and other venues throughout the North Island, donation.

Second World War oral history project: North Africa (2004) Second World War oral history project: Italy (2003) Two stages in the six-stage oral history project recorded by Megan Hutching of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage with veterans of the Second World War. Seven interviews were recorded about the campaign in Italy and sixteen interviews about the campaign in North African. Edited versions of the interviews were published in 2004 and 2005. donation.

Race Relations Conciliators oral history project (1990-2001) Interviews by Megan Hutching with seven Race Relations Conciliators about the Office of the Race Relations Conciliator and race relations in New Zealand between 1971 and 2001. Commissioned by the Human Rights Commission and carried out by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, donation. Tung Jung Oral History Project (2003-2004) Interviews, some in Cantonese, with twelve people from the Tung Jung district in China who arrived in New Zealand before 1940. The interviewer was Kitty Chang. The Tung Jung Association of New Zealand received an Award in Oral History to carry out the project. DONATION.
