FRANCES PORTER, MA (HONS), developed an interest in colonial history from working in the Historical Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs. She edited The Turanga Journals of William and Jane Williams (1974), and the Historic Buildings of New Zealand series published by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (1979, 1983). The author of A Sense of History, about Captain Cook’s landing sites in New Zealand (1978), she is currently working on a biography ofjane Maria Atkinson.

KAY SANDERSON, MA, DIP LIBR, is a librarian in the Manuscripts Section of the Alexander Turnbull Library.

JUNE starke, ba (HONS), anzla, retired in October 1983 from the Alexander Turnbull Library as Subject Specialist (Manuscripts). She has published occasional articles in the Turnbull Library Record, and has recently edited the journal of John Boultbee, a sealer living on the southwest coast of New Zealand, 1825-1828. Under the title Journal of a Rambler, it is to be published in May 1986 by Oxford University Press with the aid of a grant from the Alexander Turnbull Library Endowment Trust.
