Haere Haere, the second personification of the rainbow, seems to have been one of several brothers, all of whom could sometimes be seen in the form of a rainbow. An old myth tells how Haere and his brothers went forth to aveng the death of their father; on their first attempt they broke some rule of tapu and were defeated, but later, armed with potent incantations, they destroyed their enemy. In some old stories Moekahu, the dog god of Tuhoe, is spoken of as being their sister. But the meaning of these ancient myths is lost, and very little is known now concerning Haere.
