HERA HERANGI The death occurred (in May) of Hera Herangi, sister of the late Princess Te Puea Herangi, and grand-daughter of Tawhiao, the second Maori king. Hera Herangi was of high rank among the Tainui people. She was the daughter of Te Tahuna Herangi and Tiahuia, the only daughter of King Tawhiao, and was the last of their surviving children. The chieftainess was a Maori of the old school, who observed the customs of her people and spoke no English. In her young days she was regarded as one of the most beautiful women among the Maori nobility. She is survived by her third husband, Whetu Kingi.
