GLUEFIST/MOUNTAINS OF MURRAY
Dux De Lux, Christchurch, June 18
Winter has now laid its icy claw on Christchurch; runny, pink noses, rasping phlegmy coughs and all the lurgy driven gig goers, crammed into one small venue, sharing in the same regurgitated breath. Thankfully, the Dux de Lux is in the process of moving the bar back 5 metres, there-
fore saving the amount of lip skin I so often find stuck to my back after a gig. We grinned, and we beared it, for Mountains of Murray and Gluefist. As per usual, I missed the first half of the first band, Mountains of Murray (the bands start around 9) but
knowing full well that M.O.M had the pink faced mass, smoozing. A sleazy, dynamic rocky set with a rhythmical, raw edge, a good warm up to an amazingly chilly night. Gluefist (or is it?) on next,
and you could tell the crowd was eager—dancing to them tuning up is a sure sign. Catchy, well-structured rock/ pop sees the Fistees with financial support from Murray (Wildside) with the long
awaited, soon to be released CD. As a four piece, Gluefist have expanded into various styles with a confident sound that is tight and energetic, though still with that serious but cheeky Over-
tone. A couple of the classics were to be heard, but as per usual the night is over all too soon and the lux is produced from behind the bar to hoover up ciggy butts and the occasional drunkard.
