There’s two big events happening in the city on New Year’s Eve — the Powerstation hosts the Headless Chickens, the 3Ds, Garageland, and Loves Ugly Children, while the Aotea Centre has Nick D’Angelo’s Millennium 4, which features DLT, Che Fu, Teremoana, Mighty Asterix, BWare, Dam Native's Danny D, the return of 3 The Hard Way, and the Hallelujah Picassos ... exSupergroove horn man Tim Stewart debuted his new band the Graders mid-November at Rakinos Cafe in central Auckland, more gigs are planned soon ... Muckhole have wrapped up the recording of their debut album at Lab Studios with Chris Van De Geer. A single will surface in January, while the album (as yet untitled) is scheduled for February release. Van De Geer will also be at the controls when Eye TV begin work on their second album early in the new year ... Rangitoto College band the Larry Wednesdays won the Max TV competition to support Shihad at their recent Powerstation show ... Bizarre Beats, “NZ’s. only supplier and distributor of avant garde music, industrial gothic, darkwave, and experimental electronics”, have moved into the Space Your Face premises at 123 K’ Road; alternatively, their mail order address is PO Box 8385 Symonds Street ... the Racquet Club at 29 Sheehan Street in Ponsonby is now hosting live bands on a regular basis — 0 and Gaunt Pudding play an all-ages gig there on December 20 ... Peter Jefferies makes a rare visit to Auckland to play at the Temple Cafe on December 12, to promote his third solo album, Elevator Madness (available from Crawlspace, 203 K’ Road) ... the one-time Kurtz Lounge venue at 178 Symonds Street has been renamed @Luna.
