INXS has just completed an Oz tour of small venues (pubs and clubs) and are doing the same in the UK in July... according to Spin mag Rick Rubin wants to sign the Beasts of Bourbon to his new label he's formed with Henry Rollins. Tex from the Beasts has recorded an album with Don Walker (Cold Chisel) and Charlie Owen ... a Sydney journo raving about the Dead Flowers album Skin of a Stone in Drum Media, made the unusual statement: "The Shakey Isles have discovered rock."... when Head Like A Hole played the westie Cobra Club in Sydney's Parramatta, the management insisted on guitarist Date putting pants on or the show would be stopped. Date obliged after calling the management "homophobic" he went and got shortsand put them on, on stage. Seated behind his drums, Hidibeast was allowed to remain naked. Head Like a Hole played to over 4000 punters on their 16 date Oz tour. Front End Loader opened for them nationally ... Jenny Morris has moved from the Warners label to RooArt, a label distributed by Warner Music... Headless Chickens opened for Arrested Development on their Australian dates... Sea Stories performed their last show ever, May 7at Sydney's Annandale Hotel... the Exponents are rerecording some tracks with new guitarist Paul Skates. Their album Something Beginning With C will be released in Australia in July with new cover art.. . rock writer Clinton Walker is writing a biography about the life of original AC/DC singer Bon Scott... Shihad may do Oz gigs with the Hard Ons in July. The latter have a new single 'Crazy Crazy Eyes' from forthcoming album Too Far Gone... Tim Finn is on the cover of Aussie's HQ mag (Winter edition). The cover-line reads; "Can the singer combine the lust for fame with the search for serenity." ...
ARIA Awards winners (Australia's Music Awards) were Crowded House (Best Group), Frente! (Best Album), Diesel (Best Male Artist), Yothu Yindi (Best Indigenous Artists) and Wendy Matthews (Best Female Artist)... Jan Hellriegel is visiting Australia to promote the release of her album ... the Kerry Brown directed Moana & the Moahunters video for 'Peace Love & Family' got immediate play on Oz Video Hits TV show, a difficult show to get screenings on. The video features a guest appearance by the Neville Brothers... Sticky Filth recently completed an Oz tour with Casualty ... Dave Dobbyn will fly to NZ to do a video for his new single 'Maybe the Rain'. Kerry Brown will direct, shooting at the Auckland Town Hall's Concert Chamber May 22. Dobbyn will tour in August... former Dave Dobbyn and lan Moss bassist lan Belton died of cancer May 2. lan was a founding member of Jenny Morris' first Aussie band QED ... recent album releases: Cruel Sea The Honeymoon Is Over, Kim Salmon & the Surrealists Sin Factory, Celibate Rifles Yizgarnnoff (live), Kings of the Sun Resurrection.
