QUICKSAND Slip (Polygram)
The opening track 'Fazer' prepares you for the whole feel of the album, it drizzles upon you, drenching you with solid metronome (you know, perfect timing) rhythms, stroppy snappy
guitaring bits and a jolly lot of stern teacher like shouting, you feel like you're being scolded (alright!). Sounding a pinch like Fugazi (I can't decide which one 1 like better, so they musn't be too similar) not ripping them off, just borring their formulas a bit, but they have their own special moments, I think it’s the guitar bit that sound most like Fugazi, but Quicksand's rhythms are heavier and more solid and staying(put) and kinda more poppier and melodic, yeah, that's it.
Some very grouse songs 'Dine Alone' with super lyrics "Avoid confusion, always know how much your paying", not revolutionary but practical — there's a good bit of advise for all you young'uns. There's also lots of really good vocal melodies ('Slip') and I found that none of the songs on this bored me shitless.
This one grows on you, like a nice tasty ripe body odour, give it about a week for full effect.
