CINEMA FILE
Golly gosh! Ifs the May school holidays which means a feast of family film fun for fun families. One such
family has their orderly lifestyle
shattered when BEETHOVEN, a rather large St Bernard joins the household. Produced by the man who gave us Ghostbusters, twins, and Kindergarten Cop it should be h00t ... The star of An American Tail returns for Fl EVE L GOES WEST the animated sequel. This time Feivel leaves the mean streets of New York for riot tom LA — oops, we mean the Wild West. Strictly for younger '' viewers, but a good choice when Mum wants you to babysit the young 'uns ... Speaking of Mum, DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTERS DEAD continues its run with Christina Applegate as the oldest of five juveniles left in the care of a geriatric Babysitter-from-Hell who drops dead, kicks the bucket, bites the Big One (you get the picture) while
Mom takes a two month vacation... It could've been called 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's a Murderous Psychopath" if it was a comedy, but it's not so the/ve called it THE HAND
THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. Yes, it is veeery creepy. Rebecca De Momay poses as the ideal mothers help who
schemes to take over the family. The women at our preview were baying for her blood by end of this film... "Problem Child" was such a hit here on video they're giving the sequel a run at the cinema. PROBLEM CHILD 2 sees John Ritter and Michael Oliver return as the father and his highly destructive adopted son ... On the verge of a medical breakthrough Sean Connery takes the lead role in MEDICINE
MAN. Unfortunately the source of this possible cure for cancer is found in the South American Rainforest which is being destroyed at a very rapid rate by the Multi-national Developers. Lorraine Bracco joins him in the race against time... A different race against time takes place in STAR TREK 6: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY as the aging stars give a fitting end to the movie series. Lots of in-jokes about their age, and cameos from Christian Slater, Iman, and Clint Eastwood, all combined with a message of global peace... That superstar of wrestling Hulk Hogan takes the lead role in
SUBURBAN COMMANDO an action adventure comedy about an intergalactic hero. Strictly for fans, it also stars Christopher Lloyd and Shelley Duvall.. . a Herald critic slagged it but we think he missed the point. Sure it manipulates your heartstrings but MY GIRL is a real tear jerker in the tradional sense. Fun t 00... NZ director David Blyth's latest stars The Munsters Al Lewis in the title role of GRAMPIRE, a 'family* vampire comedy... Definitely our pick of the month is THE LAST BOY SCOUT. Bruce Willis is joined by In Living Color's Damon Wayans to tell the story of an ex-Secret Service Man who teams up with an ex-Football Player to investigate a murder. Ifs violent and way over the top, but most excellent.
