By no means is this meant to be a Dischord rave column, but it’s just that they keep releasing these great records, and with Nation Of Ulysses they've done it again. Thirteen Point Program To Destroy America was the tape I listened to most of late, and now it's the CD I listen to most. Ulysses are young, utterly over-amped and quite possibly the finest punk rock band I've heard in a long while. These guys veer from noisy stupidity like A Kid Who Tells On Another Kid Is A Dead Kid' to plain, simple celebratory romps like the sub three minute ‘Look Out! Soul Is Back’. The whole album is pure enthusiasm and wildness, and it has the best liner notes I've seen in a long while, as “The Sound Of Young Amierica’ says: ‘This is the sound, that’s around, keeps me dancing in my room. It’s illicit, cool and out of tune.’ ; In a completely different tone is Daddy Longhead’s ‘Cheato’ (Touch And Go). This is yet another Butthole Surfers side project with the bassist joining forces with ex-Scratch Acid/ Rapeman alumni and creating this baby. It’s exactly what you’d expect, which is basically a real mixup, all sorts of weirdness bouncing around and somehow making a damn fun time.
