Celluloid on Vinyl

Jayrem Records have secured the rights to release the diverse Celluloid record label in New Zealand.

Founded by the highly regarded Jean Karakos, the New York label has a wide range of innovative artists in its stable. Included are folkadelic revivalists the Golden Palominos, African pop group Toure Kunda, New York experimentalists Material, and the leading Afrobeat figure, Fela Kuti. Also on the label is the punk/ hiphop collaboration John Lydon did with Afrika Bambaataa, and many live recordings made at New York’s pivotal CBGB’s club. Head of production at Celluloid is Bill Laswell, the renowned bassist and producer who has worked with Mick Jagger (She's the Boss), Herbie Hancock (Rockit), Nona Hendryx, Gil Scott Heron and Motorhead.
