No. 299, 1898.—Petition of Te Dapiki Pataba and 3 Others. Petitionbes allege that Nakora Oroti has been wrongfully declared successor to Aritaku te Hakona, one of the deceased owners of Lot 22, Te Aro Pa, and they pray that they, being the rightful successors, may be appointed in his stead. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 7th September, 1899.

No. 301, 1898.—Petition of Wi Mahuei Mataitaua. Petitioneh complains that his petition re succession to his younger brother's interest in the Mana-watu-Wairarapa-Mangatainoka No. 3 Block was dealt with in his absence, and praying for reconsideration. I am directed to report that the Committee, having again considered the petitioner's case, and finding that he has not availed himself of his right, under the provisions of section 39 of "The Native Land Court Act, 1894," to bring the matter before the Native Land Court, has no recommendation to make. 7th September, 1899.

No. 274.—Petition of Maku Ellison and Others. Petitionebs pray that a rehearing may be held in connection with the Poukawa Eeserve, Te Hauke, Hawke's Bay District. I am directed to report that the Committee, having fully considered the evidence in connection with this case, is of opinion sufficient grounds have been shown to warrant further inquiry being held into the ownership of the land in question, and, with that end in view, it is recommended that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 15th September, 1899.
