ORDER OP REFERENCE. Extract from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 30th Day of June, 1904. Ordered, — "That Standing Order No. 218 be suspended, and that a Committee be appointed, consisting of thirteen members, to examine and report upon questions relating to railways; with power to call for persons and papers; three to be a quorum: the Committee to consist of Mr. Arnold, Mr. Bennet. Mr. Hogg, Mr. Lawry, Mr. Massey, Mr. R. McKenzie, Mr. Rhodes, Mr. Sidey, Mr. Tanner, Mr. J. C. Thomson, Mr. Witty, Mr. Wood, and the mover."—(Hon. Sir J. G. Wabd.)

EEPOETS. No. 894.—Petition of H. 0. Nolan and 100 Others. Petitioners pray that express trains between Auckland and Rotorua should stop at Papakura on sale-days. I am directed to report that, as the prayer of this petition has been granted during the the Committee therefore has no recommendation to make. 23rd August, 1904.

No. 84. —Petition of J. Austin. Petitioner prays for compensation on account of alleged wrongful dismissal. The Committee, having heard the petition read, and also the statement of the Railway Department thereon, reports that, after giving the case its full consideration, it cannot recommend any interference with the decision of the Board of Appeal, to which Austin's case was referred. 23rd August, 1904.

No. 680. —Petition of William Alsweiler. Petitioner asks for compensation for injury received through truck going over his leg. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 14th September, 1904.

No. 369. —Petition of Thomas Patterson. Petitioner prays for further compensation for injuries received in connection with a railway accident. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 14th September, 1904.

No. 549. —Petition of William Diack and Others. Petitioners pray for the formation of a road at the Tuinai Railway-station. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 14th September, 1904.

No. 93. —Petition of Samuel Vaile. Petitioner prays for a trial of the stage system on the New Zealand railways. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends that the petitioner be allowed the sum of £50 in satisfaction of his claim for compensation. 3rd November, 1904.

No. 926.—Petition of J. J. Cottle and Others. Petitioners pray for more accommodation at the Kopuaranga Station. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 4th November, 1904.
