Ditto. 10 Prom 1,023 electors, protesting against the name " Waihemo " being changed to " Waikouaiti " Prom the local authorities and others, stating that at a public meeting held in the Town Hall, Havelock, on the 9th July, 1902, the following resolution was passed : " That this Board (Town) strongly and emphatically protests against the inclusion of Havelock with the Nelson Electorate, with which tliey have no community of interest, either socially or commercially, and that such inclusion would practically disfranchise the residents of Havelock." At that meeting it was resolved that copies of the resolution should be sent to the Acting-Premier, Hon. C. H. Mills, and the Boundaries Commissioners. The meeting resolved that Mr. Erskine should, with their leave, wait upon the Commission in reference to the above on the 7th August, 1902. Certified copy of above resolution, signed by William Price, Chairman, was forwarded by' the Hon. C. H. Mills Letter asking that Havelock be restored to the Wairau Electorate Aug. 5.. 11 Nelson - Agreed to. 12 Wairau .. From the electors residing on the Starborough Estate, Awatere, drawing attention to the proposed boundary between Wairau and Hurunui Electorates, and also praying that they be included in the Wairau Electorate, and also suggesting the following boundary: On the south along the main road from Lake Grassmere to the Flaxbourne River, and thence along that river westward From miners resident in and around Waikaka, objecting to being placed in the Clutha Electorate, and requesting that the boundaries east of the Waikaka River be left in the Wakatipu Electorate, as it includes the mining reserves. They recommend that the part of the Wakatipu Electorate bounded by the present Clutha Electorate, the Maitland Village to Chatton Village to Waikaka Road, should be included in the Clutha Electorate A petition from residents in East Chatton and Waikaka, learning, with regret, that part of the Wakatipu Electorate bounded by the present Clutha Electorate, Maitland Village to Chatton Village Road to Waikaka Road, should be included in the Clutha Electorate, for reasons stated therein Petitioner suggests that a small settlement at Makarora (sawmillers, flax-millers), whose means of connection with the outer world is by steamboat through Lake Wanaka, should be included in the Wakatipu Electorate. Map herewith Suggestions for alternations in the boundaries of the Courtenay and Riccarton Electorates : that the north bank of the Waimakariri River be all in same electorate —proposed boundary seems to cut Rural Section 11253 in two ; that a three-cornered block of land bounded by Springs Road, South Road, Southbridge Railway-line, and Halswell Junction Road be retained in the Riccarton Electorate, as making a better boundary if the Southbridge line is taken as the west boundary to its intersection with the said Halswell Junction Road Suggesting the alteration of the name " Courtenay " to " Waimakariri" A request that the whole of the Halswell Road District be included in Courtenay, and that the Spreydon District east of Bannington Street be included in Lyttelton. The writer says that Lyttelton already includes portions of Sydenham, Addington—which is now in three electorates, Christchurch, Lyttelton, and Courtenay—and that the change suggested would place it in two only A request that Oxford Town District be not divided, and stating that majority of people object to Oxford being included in Kaiapoi Electorate A petition praying that the old boundaries be retained, or that the whole of the Oxford Road District may be included in the Kaiapoi Electorate Hon. Electoral District. Objections or Suggestions. Name and Address of Objector or Writer. Date. Decision of Commission. to. A request that the Commission will reconsider their decision as regards the boundaries of Awarua and Mataura Electorates. The writer says, "It appears that the boundary dividing the two electorates has not been taken along the existing roads, but just where Gohl's Hotel stands, the boundary having been fixed along an old road, which has practically never existed, and which really forms a part of Gohl's farm, the result being that a triangular piece embracing an acre or two upon which the hotel is situated has been cut off from the Awarua Electorate and included in the Mataura Electorate, and that there is really no visible natural mark to distinguish the division between the two electorates at that particular point."
