NORTH ISLAND REPRESENTATION COMMISSION AND MIDDLE ISLAND REPRESENTATION COMMISSION (REPORTS OF THE).

Presented to the House of Representatives pursuant to " The Representation Act, 1887."

NORTH ISLAND. EEPOET. To His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies. May it please Your Excellency,— We, the members of the North Island Representation Commission appointed by Your Excellency, have the honour to report that we sat on the Bth instant to consider objections relating to the reapportionment of the thirty-four North Island electoral districts and their boundaries. Forty-one objections and suggestions were received and duly considered and dealt with by the Commissioners in the manner set forth in the attached schedule, and the Commission finally approved and confirmed the apportionment and boundaries of the electoral districts, and now respectfully submit for Your Excellency's consideration the names and descriptions of the same, together with the actual and nominal populations respectively agreeing with the totals as allotted by the Joint Commission. SCHEDULE. NORTH ISLAND ELECTORAL DISTRICTS. Bay of Islands. Station 18 on Te Tarahi o Rahiri; thence by a right line to Trig. Station 43 (Tutamoe), Tutamoe Survey District: thence towards the south generally by a right line to the north-eastern corner of State Forest reserve of 7,750 acres, in Tutamoe Survey District; thence by a right line to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 1, Block 1., Tutamoe Survey District; thence by the said Section No. 1, and by Sections Nos. 6, 8, 9, 10, 19, 20, 21, and 22 of the Marlborough Special Settlement, to the north-western corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by a right line to the north-eastern corner of the Waipoua No. 2 Block (N.R.), Waipoua Survey District; thence by the said Waipoua No. 2 Block to the sea-coast at Hahaonui: thence towards the south-west by the sea : and towards the north by the sea: including Moturoa, Cavalli, and all adjacent islands. This district is bounded towards the north-west by the Bay of Islands Electoral District, hereinbefore described, from the westernmost corner of Section No. 3 of Block X., Mangakahia Survey District, to the Whananaki Inlet near Sandy Bay: thence towards the north-east generally by the sea to Tawharanui Point: thence towards the south-east generally by the sea to North Head, Mahurangi Harbour : thence towards the west and east by Mahurangi Harbour to Section No. 91, Parish of Mahurangi, in Block XL, Mahurangi Survey District : thence towards the south generally by the said Section No. 91, and by Sections Nos. 106, 104, 162, and 103 of the said Parish of Mahurangi to the south-western corner of the last-mentioned section : thence by the southern boundary-lines of the eastern and western portions of Section No. 155, and by the road forming the southern boundary of the southern portion of Section No. 159 of the said Parish of Mahurangi, and by that road continued to the Great North Road: thence towards the west by the Great North Road towards Warkworth to its junction with the road leading westerly from Warkworth towards Kaipara Flats : thence again towards the south generally by the last-mentioned road intersecting Sections Nos. 66, 65, 64, 63, 62, 61, and 60, Parish of Mahurangi, and proceeding along the southern boundary of Section No. 15 and intersecting Sections Nos. 11, 12, and 13, Parish of Kourawhero, to the north-western boundary-line of the last-mentioned section ; thence by the said Section No. 13 and by Sections Nos. 22, 49, and 48 and the northern portion of Section No. 47 and the northern portion of Section No. 44 of the said Parish of Kourawhero to the Onehunga Stream: thence towards the south-west generally by the said Onehunga Stream to its confluence with the Kourawhero Stream; thence by the said Kourawhero Stream to its confluence with the Kaitoto Stream ; thence by the said Kaitoto Stream to its confluence with the Hoteo River; thence by the right bank of the Hoteo River to the easternmost corner of Section No. 111,

May it please Your Excellency,— We, the members of the Middle Island Representation Commisssion appointed by Your Excellency, have the honour to report that we sat on the Bth instant to consider objections relating to the reapportionment of the thirty-four Middle Island electoral districts and their boundaries. Thirty-eight objections and suggestions were received and duly considered and dealt with by the Commissioners in the manner set forth in the attached schedule, and the Commission finally approved and confirmed the apportionment and boundaries of the electoral districts, and now respectfully submit for Your Excellency's consideration the names and descriptions of the same, together with the actual and nominal populations respectively agreeing with the totals as allotted by the Joint Commission. This district is bounded towards the north-east generally by the Motueka Electoral District, hereinbefore described, from the mouth of the Ngakawhau River, on the west coast, to Faerie Queen, on the summit of the Spenser Mountains : thence towards the south-east by the summit of the Spenser Mountains to the watershed between the Grey and Maruia Rivers : thence towards the south-west generally by the summit of that watershed to Mount Haast; thence by the summit of the western watershed of the Inangahua River over Trig. Stations G, P, 0, and A, Waitahu Survey District, to the source of the Devil's Creek; thence by the watershed between Devil's Creek and Slab Hut Creek and the watershed between the Inangahua River and the Mawhera-iti River to the source of the said Mawhera-iti River ; and thence by the leading spur to the summit of the main range leading to Mount Faraday ; thence by the summit of that range to Mount Faraday: thence again towards the south-east by the summit of the Paparoa Mountains to a point due east of the source of the Pororari River : thence again towards the south-west by a right line to the source of the Pororari River, and by the Pororari River aforesaid to the sea: and thence towards the west and north-west by the ocean to the mouth of the Ngakawhau River aforesaid, the place of commencement. Station F, Maungatua Survey District; thence towards the north by a right line to the said Trig. Station F ; thence again towards the west by a line drawn due north to Lee's Stream ; thence again towards the south-west by Lee's Stream to its source ; and thence towards the south generally by the summit of the watershed between the Waipori River and Deep Stream to Lammerlaw Range aforesaid, at the Mount Ida Electoral District aforesaid, the place of commencement. Bruce. This district is bounded towards the north-west generally by Crook Burn from its confluence with the Clutha River to the road which forms the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 13, BlOck XL, Waitahuna West Survey District; thence by that road and the road which forms the south-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 14 and 15 of the said Block XL, and by the road which forms the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 10, and the southern boundaries of Sections Nos. 9 and 8, Block IX., of the said Waitahuna West Survey District, to the road which forms the north-western boundary of Section No. 15 of the said Block IX. ; thence by that road to the northernmost corner of the said Section No. 15 : thence towards the north-east by Section No. 1 of the said Block IX., and by Sections Nos. 1, 2, 3, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18, Block VII., of the said Waitahuna West Survey District, and the south-western boundary-line of the last-mentioned section produced to the Waitahuna River : thence again towards the north-west by that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary-line of Section No. 6, Block VII., Waitahuna East Survey District: thence again towards the south-west by a right line to the south-eastern corner of that section; thence by the said Section No. 6 : thence again towards the north-west by the said Section No. 6 and Sections Nos. 9 and 80, a road, and Sections Nos. 1, 82, and 81, all of the said Block VII., by a road fronting Section No. 2, and by Section No. 10, Block X., of the said Waitahuna East Survey District: thence again towards the north-east by the last-mentioned section and by Section No. 44 of the said Block X. to the Waitahuna River : and thence again towards the north-west by that river to Bungtown Creek : thence towards the west generally by the right bank of the said Bungtown Creek to the northern boundary of Section No. 11, Block IX., Tuapeka East Survey District: thence towards the south by that section and Section No. 10 to Block X. of the said Tuapeka East Survey District: thence again towards the west by the said Block X. and Block XIII. of the said Tuapeka East Survey District to the summit of the range leading from Trig. Station T of the said survey district to the northeastern boundary-line of Section No. 1, Block XII., Tuapeka East Survey District: thence towards the north-east by the north-eastern boundary-line of that section to the Waitahuna River ; thence by the left bank of that river to the northern boundary-line of Section No. 1, Block IX., Waipori Survey District; thence by that section to Waitahuna Hill; thence by the summit of the watershed over Trig. This district is bounded towards the north-east by the Mount Ida Electoral District, hereinbefore described, from the Dunstan Mountains to Lammerlaw Range at the Taieri Electoral District : thence again towards the north-east and towards the east generally by the Taieri Electoral District, hereinbefore described, to the Waipori River: thence towards the south-east generally by the Bruce Electoral District, hereinbefore described, to the confluence of Crook Burn with the Clutha River : thence towards the south-west by the Clutha River to the confluence of Blackcleugh Burn with the said Clutha River; thence by Blackcleugh Burn to a point due south of Tapanui Hill; thence by a right line to the said Tapanui Hill; thence by the summit of the range to Trig. Station L, Crookston Survey District: thence again towards the south-east by the south-eastern boundary-lines of Blocks XIV. and XL, Crookston Survey District : thence towards the south by the southern boundary-line of the said Block XI. to its south-western corner ; thence by Sections Nos. 1, 12, 30, 32, and 37, Block 111., Crookston Survey District, and Sections Nos. 20, 9, 11, 12, 29, and 13, Block IV., Greenvale Survey District, and Sections Nos. 2, 7, 12,
