RAILWAY OFFICIALS. (DETAILS OF SALARIES, ALLOWANCES, APPOINTMENTS, AND PROMOTIONS.)

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 20th September, 1893. Ordered, " That a return be laid upon the table of this House (in continuation of D.-8 and D.-123, 1893, as to officers in the Eailvvay Department), giving similar information as to salaries down to the 30th June, 1893, and as to travelling-allowances for the last financial year, and for the following three months down to the 30th June, 1893 ; and for a further return, giving similar information, under both heads of the foregoing returns, as to all officers receiving salaries of £200 per annum and upwards who have been appointed or promoted by the Commissioners subsequent to the 27th January, 1889, down to the 30th June, 1893."—(Mr. G. Return showing (1) the Names of all Officers and Persons in the Employ of the Railway Commissioners whose Salaries amount to £200 and upwards; (2) the Amount of Salary received by each such Officer; (3) the Amount per Diem that each such Officer received whilst travelling on the Service of the Railway Commissioners; (4) the Amount of Travelling-allowance received during the Financial Year ended 31st March, 1893, and the Three Months ended 30th June, 1893; (5) the Amount of Salary which each such Officer was receiving when the Railway Comniissioners took office, and the Amount received at the 30th June, 1893. Note.—Items marked * include allowances granted while absent from the colony on business of the department. The amounts shown under heading of "Travelling-allowance paid" include also cab-fares, porterage, passage-fares, and actual expenses incurred by officers for days or part days when not away from head-quarters all night. The return in this respect is on same basis as the return presented last session (D.-8, 1893). The columns headed "Rank" show whether alterations in pay are due to promotions to other offices, or to increases under the scale of pay in operation on the Government Railways.
