REDUCTIONS IN CIVIL SERVICE.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 11th May, 18S8. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing the number of Civil servants and persons in Government employ who have been dismissed, or have received notice of dismissal, or have had their salaries or pay reduced, since Ist November, 1887 ; showing in each case the amount of saving estimated to be made by such dismissal, notice, or reduction, and stating the provincial district in which such Civil servant or employ^ resided when employed; stating also the amount of pension or compensation paid or to be paid in each case of dismissal, and the amount of salary to be paid to persons replacing those dismissed as above mentioned." —(Mr. W.
