TRACEDY ON RUAPEHU.—Mr. James Alexander Gordon, a solicitor, of Taumarunui, having slipped on the ice surface while climbing on Mount Ruapehu yesterday, fell into Crater Lake, and, after clinging for nearly three hours to a rock, disappeared. The summit of Mount Ruapehu, looking south, showing Crater Lake in the centre. From left, the main peaks are Pyramid Peak, Girdlestone Peak, Ruapehu Peak (9175 ft), the highest point on the mountain, Teaala Hua and Paretetaitonga ; (right).
