BIG SOUTH ISLAND HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER PROJECT.—LEFT: The site of the dam which it is proposed to build from a base deep down in the rocky bed of the Molyneux river, between six and seven miles from Roxburgh, to provide the head of water for the generation of 300,000 kilowatts of electricity. On the distant part of the far bank is the site of the power-house. The plans for the dam, which will rise to a height of about 200 feet, are only in the late drafting stage, and the work will not be completed for at least seven years. RIGHT: The Alexandra gorge viewed from the main highway, eight miles from the dam site, which is at the mouth of the gorge.
