THE NATION’S LEADERS TAKE PART IN PROCLAMATION CEREMONY.—The call for three cheers by the Governor-General (Lord Galway), after he had read the Proclamation of King George VI from the steps of Parliament House, met with a ready response from the official party on the dais and from the public generally. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M.J.Savage) is standing on the Governor-General’s right and on his left are the Hon. P. Fraser,the Hon. R. Semple and the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers), Above, a flourish of trumpets being sounded by trumpeters from the band of the Wellington Regiment.

HISLOP, Mayor of Wellington in 1907 The principal figures at the celebrations in Wellington on 26th September, 1907, when the proclamation was read announcing that New Zealand had been raised to the status of a Dominion. As a result a of the change Lord Plunket became the first Governor-General of the new Dominion. The proclamation was read from the steps of Parliament House by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward. Mr Histop, Mayor of Wellington in that year, and father of the present Mayor, represented the city at the official celebrations.
