The Sockburn Ford Lasers marching team goes through its routine in the midget grade display section of the Canterbury Marching Centre championships at Porritt Park yesterday. Twenty-seven teams took part in the competitions which marked the opening day of the 1983-84 marching season. The Sockburn Ford Lasers won the midget grade.

NEW MARCHING FORMATION INTRODUCED DURING RECENT BRITISH ARMY MANOEUVRES ON SALISBURY PLAINS Gordon Highlanders marching through Crondall village in "column,of threes" en route to Salisbury Plains, where recent extensive army manoeuvres were carried out. A feature of the manoeuvres this year was the introduction of the column of threes marching formation, which has replaced the " four-deep formation.
