WAIANIWA.
, Miss Kirk, the well-known advocate of no-license, under invitation of the local branch of the W.C.T.U. delivered a lecture in the Waianiwa Hall on Thursday. The meeting was largely attended. Mrs Ronald (President of .the local branch of the W.C.T.U.) occupied the chair. The lecturer spoke for nearly two hours, and concluded an excellent lecture by appealing to the audience to strike out the top line at the forthcoming polling day. On the motion of Mr Heaven, Miss Kirk was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The lecture was interspersed with songs by Mrs Jas. L. Wilson, Mr Jas. Blue, and a nicely rendered recitation by the Band of Hope boys. Some members of the Waianiwa orchestra were present and contributed selections. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to the President, Orchestra, and the Band of Hope. I mentioned last week that the Waianiwa Athletic Society’s Sports were to be on the 29th December. They are fixed for Thursday, the 28th December.
