CHINA’S SEAT ON UNO

COMMISSION IS SUGGESTED MR. STASSEN’S COMMENT fN.Z.P. A.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, August 15. The Appointment of a British, American, and Indian commission to visit Communist China was suggested to-night by Mr Harold Stassen, who was a candidate for the Republican nomination in the 1948 Presidentian elections. Mr Stassen, who is now the president of the University of Pennsylvania, said that the commission, under the United Nations’ auspices, should investigate the application by Communist China for membership in the United Nations. The commission would try to find out if the Communist regime was “under the complete domination of another Power,” and if it recognised international obligations and respected human' rights. Mr Stassen said: “If entry to China of the commission is refused, all nations will have clear ground for rejecting the application. “If entry is permitted, the resulting period of investigation will constructively ease the present tension and may well result, through the good offices of Pandit Nehru and others, in a trend towards the better in * the entime confused Asiatic scene.",, Mr Stassen declared that the Soviet Union should be notified by a United States Congressional resolution that if “Communist imperialist forces” launch further aggression, war would be carried to Russian soil.
