POLIO. CASES

DEATHS IN BRITAIN LONDON, June 20. _ Poliomyelitis has caused 97 deaths in England and Wales to June 10 this year, compared with 27 deaths in the same period last year. Nine cases were notified in the London area on June 19. A Ministry of Health spokesman said that it was too early to say whether a really heavy outbreak was likely but the next two or three weeks would give some indication. Britain’s worst outbreak was in 1947 when 8752 cases were notified and there were 500 deaths.
