LAND PURCHASE
END IN TWO YEARS (P.A.) LEVIN, Nov. 11. The Minister of Rehabilitation'(the Hon. C. F. Skinner) had assured him that in two years it would not be necessary to go any further in compulsory purchasing of land under the Servicemen’s Land Settlement Act, as all former servicemen farmers would then he settled, said the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) in Levin last evening. The Government was quite prepared to make the same facilities available to young civilian farmers, but not to the extent of compulsory land purchasing, he continued. That was introduced to help returned servicemen. Massey and Lincoln colleges, and all other services, would, however, be open to young civilian farmers. With the exception of a few hostile interjections, which Mr Fraser ignored or parried, the attendance of 600 gave him an attentive hearing. Before the meeting the mais street resounded to strains of a welcoming Maori Haka. while in the hall the Prime Minister was given a hearty reception.
