LITTLE BOY DROWNED

FATALITY AT WOOLSTQN (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 10. When he fell into the Heathcote River this afternoon, Danny Edward Thompson, aged four, son of Mr and Mrs M. A. Thompson, of 23 Riley Crescent, Woolston, was drowned. The boy was playing on the Sumner Terrace bank, almost opposite Chichester Street, with a boy of his own age, when he leaned over to look into a culvert and fell in the river. The other boy went home and said: “Danny has fallen in the river.” ' A party of police began to search for the body, and the father and a neighbour dived into the river several times, but the water was dirty and nothing could be seen. The body was found at G. 30 p.m., about two chains from where the boy fell in.
