GRAND PRIX WON BY JENSEN
Motor-cycle Racing: at Cust AVERAGED 67 MILES AN HOUR (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 29. A huge crowd watched the New Zealand Grand Prix motor-cycle racing events held to-day at Gust in perfect weather. The senior and open events were won by S. Jensen .(Palmerston North), who , averaged more than 67 miles an hour over the 152-mile course to win easily. The junior and lightweight races were won respective- _ ly by J. Phillips (Auckland), who was also third in the open and senior events, and T. McCleary, junior, the youngest rider in any of the events.
The racing was not marred by accident, one spill occurring and the rider being only slightly hurt. Results:—Open and Senior Grand Prix (open, for all machines up to 1000 cc, and senior, up to 500 cc).—S. Jensen (500 cc, Triumph), Palmerston North 1; K. Mudford (500 cc, Triumph), Feilding, 2; J. Phillips (350 cc, Velocette), Auckland, 3; A. Holland (500 cc, Triumph), Christchurch, 4; E. Nesbitt (500 cc, Triumph), Dunedin, 5; G. Haggitt (500 cc, Triumph), Dunedin, 6. The winner’s time for the 152.2 miles was 2 hours 16 minutes 18 2-5 seconds, the second fastest time in which the race has been run.
Junior Grand Prix (for machines up to 350 cc).—J. Phillips (350 cc, Veloeette), Auckland, 1; J. Green (350 cc, Velocette), Auckland, 2;, L. Wilkiiison (350 cc, Triumph), Christchurch, 3. The distance was 97.7 miles, and the winner’s time was 1 hour 33 minutes.
Light-weight Grand Prix (for machines up to 250 cc). —T. McCleary, Jnr., (O.K. Supreipe), Christchurch, 1. The winner’s time for the course of 73.2 miles was 1 hour 33 minutes 33 seconds. McCleary was the only lightweight machine rider to finish the course. , ,
