Fire in Section
The Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out at 1.20 this afternoon to extinguish a fife in a section on the corner of Park and Burnett Streets. The brigade lost no time m answering the call, and had water playing on the fire three minutes after the alarm sounded. The fire was started to burn some rubbish, but was found difficult to control, the 'southerly breeze carrying it t?w a r d . H W Smallbone’s house. The brigade soon had it under control the engines returning to the station at 1.30 p.m.
