REFUSAL TO SPREAD LIES
CZECH WRITER RESIGNS (Rec. 10.45 a.m.) LONDON. March 29. Ivan Blatny, aged 29, a Czech poet and Avriter, who arrived in London on March 27 as a member of delegation of the Czech syndicate of authors, announced to-day that he Avas resigning from the syndicate and from the Communist Party. 1-Ie will not return to Czechoslovakia. The delegation came as the guests of the British council. Blatny said that if he followed official. Czech instructions he < would have to assure the British public that the Czech situation was an expression of the people’s will, but my conscience forbids me to spread such lies.” /
Blatny said the Communist Party has sent out instructions to all Czech writers, which gave a list of themes for poems. The instructions told writers to celebrate the May elections in which, according to the instructions, “the people will confirm the authority of the Communist Party under the wise leadership of Clement Gottwald.”
