PETROL TAX

ANOTHER EFFORT TO SECURE REDUCTION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. While the retail price of petrol continued to rise, there was still no hint of any reduction in the petrol tax, which is the highest in the world, said Mr R. W. Roydhouse, president of the North Island Motor\Union to-day. He said that increased costs of importing petrol might justify any ‘advance that the Price Tribunal had agreed to, and while they deplored such a step, they had to accept it. “It will, however, strengthen still further our case for a reduction in the petrol tax, which is Is 2.7 d in a gallon,” added Mr Roydhouse. t The North Island Motor Union will immediately take action to obtain a reduction of at least 4d a gallon in the tax,” he added.
