REDUCTION BILL

Income Taxes in U.S.

HOUSE APPROVES MEASURE (N.Z.P.A.- ? CoDyrlght). (Rec. 12.15) WASHINGTON, Mar. 24. The House of Representatives today passed by 289 votes to 66 the Republicamsponsored Bill to reduce income taxes by 4,800,000,000 dollars. The vote was 52 more than necessary to override the expected Presidential veto. ; The Senate has already approved of the measure, which now goes to President Truman. The Bill removes 77,400,000 low income wage earners from .the tax rolls. Eighty-four Democrats joined the Republicans in voting for the Bill. The United Press says that approval of the reduction came at a time when United States military leaders are reported to be ready to propose that the defence budget be increased from 11,000,000,000 to 21,000,000,000 dollars in view of the tense world situation. This would give President Truman, who has - already vetoed two tax cut measures, an important argument for vetoing this one.
