Largest Yarding on Record SOUTHDOWNS SELL WELL The Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual ram fair opened this morning with offerings of flock rams, the Anns sellingfive pens each in rotation. The entry of 1700 was the largest ever yarded in the history of the fair. Corriedales were the first breed offered, and bidding was not keen over the first few pens. Two sheep offered by Mr R. J. Martin (Seafield) brought Only two pens of Shropshires were offering. One pen was passed and, the other Tour rams sold at SJgns._ There was a large entry in the Southdown section of the flock rams, and the sheep sold well. Top price up to 12.30 was gained by Mr J. H. iGrigg (Longbeach) at 20gns. Top price last year in the Southdown flock ram section was 17£gns for a ram from the Tinwald breeder, Mr W. N. Lowery. There Avas a, very good selection of useful types of rams in this section, and bidding generally Avas keen. A good bench of buyers Avas present, all Avell-known breeders of the Ashburton County taking part as Avell as some representatives from outside districts. The stud rams did not sell at all well, over half of the offering being passed. Often the bidding did not reach the price being paid for flock rams. Top price in the sale Avas 36 guineas, Avliich A\ r as paid for a oneshear Border Leicester entered by Mr R. J. Loav (Methven). The SouthdOAvn entry sold best. No Corriedales or Romney Mai'sh Avere sold. The Border Leicesters were the largest entry, but passings in this line, as in the SouthdOAvn, Avere heavy.
