LEAVE ENTITLEMENT
PROVISIONS OF 1944'RETROSPECTIVE That the Association had been successful after two years of repeated representation in gaining the Government’s consent to make retrospective to the beginning of hostilities ttye “overseas leave” entitlements which came into operation on April 19, 1944, was notified in a circular letter from Mr S. J. Harrison (general secretary of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association) received by the executive of the Ashburton Association last evening. Appreciation of' the result was expressed by Mr W. Page, on whose motion it was decided to forward a letter of thanks to Dominion headquarters for their successful efforts. Two important points to note, stated the circular, were: — (1) That payment (which will be by warrant) cannot be expected until approximately June, 1947, and that applicants for prior payment will not be favourably received. (2) That no free travel warrant privileges will be granted for the number of days now ascertainable under these provisions.
