FIGHTING IN PERSIA

OIL DEPOTS SET ON FIRE (Rec. 9.30) TEHERAN, Oct. 4. Reuter’s Teheran correspondent says guerrilla warfare is reported in the locality of Sulah, seven miles from Ardabil, east of Tabriz, where tribesmen set fire to oil depots belonging to the Persian democrats of whom 104 were killed and many wounded. Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent says that 2400 Indian troops which sailed from Karachi in the last five days for the Persian Gulf ports are part of the general process of personnel replacement which started more than two months ago. < Tribesmen in control of the important Western Persian key town of Kermanshah formed a “tribesmen’s union,” which demands the same measure of autonomy as the northern province of Azerbaijan. Unconfirmed reports state that Quashqai tribesmen in Pars Province are attacking Shiraz. Fierce liouse-to-house fighting is reported at Khazerun, 70 miles north-west of Bushire, the Persian Gulf port which the Persian' Government on October 2 gave up as lost. ; <

The tribesmen on October 2 brutally strangled to death the last defenders of Bushire. The news deeply shocked Teheran. The newspapers proclaimed a day of mourning for the entire nation. >

The Tudeh Party celebrated the fifth anniversary of ' its foundation by marching in the streets and singing and shouting slogans.
